Water saving tip #14

By James Lombard   (2016-04-19)

Do not wash or rinse under a running tap

Casually rinsing vegetables, dishes, cutlery, mugs and glasses under a running tap with an open sink can be a source of substantial cumulative water wastage.

When washing the dishes, rather fill one sink with soapy water and another with rinse water. If you only have a single basin, place the washed dishes in a dish-rack and do a once-off rinse with a spray device or pan full of water.

General rinsing can also be done over a tupperware container or plastic bucket. The water can then be re-used for pot plants or in the garden.
